It seems to me that the world is increasingly divided into people who use social networking on the web and those who do not.
The growth of Facebook in higher and higher age brackets is a fascinating phenomenon to watch. Still, there are lots of computer literate people who either fear a loss of privacy or sense that it will waste precious time. Personally, I think they are delusional in the first place, and pretty much have got it right in the second. For those who view social networking of any kind with scepticism or even loathing, it seems most negative when it comes to Twitter. People either "get" it or they describe it as lame, or stupid, or useless--all ways of admitting that they have no clue what purpose it can serve. If I had a small business I would tweet all the time, while trying to be mindful of any content that might be dull. Still, big numbers of people use Twitter in a boring way and I think that is what gives some people the idea it is lame. Or won't last. Celebrities and non-celebs who tweet their every quotidian move or banal thought are the bane of the Twitter universe. The fix is so easy though. One click and they are gone!
